Netgear upgrade complete

The SURFboard is now talking to the G4 surfbox, running OS X, and the HP running XP Pro via the Netgear Router (RP614 v 2 by the way) and this concludes this portion of the wired upgrade. Coming soon - the 2.4 Gig wireless router for moving media files around the house to all things wireless - speakers, laptops, other roll around surfing stations, and the all important Oak communication server. (more on that later...)

Second phase of the network upgrade will be a totally different wired Giga network, devoted to the recording studio being built in the basement, and the current G5 video editing suite upstairs. Will we be dropping another G5 in to the house? Absolutely - audio is no less important than video around here.

New IDE saves IDEAS

Pull a jumper pin and voila - the 40 Gig Maxtor is a slave drive, and backed up to the new 80 Gig drive - Western Digital IDE for 100 bucks. Quick, painless, and a few years worth of emails spared - serious tech convo type emalis - IDEA emails. Ahh, tech. Now I have to decide which operating system I want to run on this thing, buy a ton of Ram for the two G4s and this HP, and I'll be one step closer to finishing the summer upgrade. Didn't think that being a home sysadmin would be such a full time job.
